The staff-to-room ratio is the total number of Full-Time Equivalent (FTE) employees divided by the total number of available rooms. Luxury hotels often have higher ratios (1.5 to 2.0 staff members per room) due to highly personalized guest services, while select-service or budget properties aim for lower ratios (0.2 to 0.5 staff members per room). Keeping this ratio optimized ensures you maintain high standards of guest satisfaction without inflating your labor expenses, which typically represent the largest operating cost in the hospitality sector.

Housekeeping needs are calculated dynamically using the following formula: (Occupied Rooms * Cleaning Time in minutes) / (Shift Length * 60 minutes). For example, if you have 20 occupied rooms and each room takes 30 minutes to clean, you require 600 minutes of total cleaning time. If your housekeepers work an 8-hour shift (480 minutes), you will need approximately 1.25 housekeepers (600 / 480) to complete the daily cleaning.
